If this house could just tell it's secrets! Located in Spring Hill, TN two miles off US 31, Oaklawn has held the imagination of Civil War buffs and historians for many years. Considered one of the finest in the region, Absalom Thompson built this brick plantation home in 1835. In November, 1864 Confederate General John Bell Hood chose Oaklawn as his headquarters the night before the battle of Franklin. Some say it was whiskey, while others say it was the pain killer for his amputated leg, that led to his sleeping through the escape of 32,000 federal troops during the night. Only the walls of Oaklawn know for sure! The home is furnished to museum standards and is
a tour favorite. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. In recent years it was the backdrop for the movie "Daltry Calhoun". In 2008, four of the rooms were used on the HGTV show Next Design Star.
