Filming in Maury County

The rolling hills and lush greenery of Maury County, TN, present a beautiful backdrop for the filming of movies, documentaries, music videos, and commercials.  Duck River, one of the most bio-diverse waterways in the world (according to National Geographic) meanders through the county at various widths presenting opportunities for many film settings.

Maury County is known as the Antebellum Capital of Tennessee because of its many wonderful homes that have been lovingly maintained thru the years.  In addition to our public sites, including a presidential home, many private homes could be made available to a film crew.  While the area reveres it history, it looks to the future with modern manufacturing facilities and businesses.

In addition to our beautiful landscapes, we are movie friendly having some history with the film industry.  Many movie scenes have been filmed around the county including parts of: “Hannah Montana: The Movie”, “Daltry Calhoun”, “The Green Mile”, “Stuey”, “At Close Range”, “The Grifter”, “Red, White & Blues” and Deadline”. These were filmed in downtown Columbia and private and public homes as well as rural locations throughout the county.  The U.S. Marine Corps and American Express filmed commercials in downtown Columbia.  A documentary for PBS, “Southern Belle”, was filmed at The Athenaeum Rectory and was shown at the Nashville Film Festival in 2010.

Beautiful Rippavilla Plantation, located just off I-65 at the Saturn Parkway, has been the site for several music videos, a PBS documentary on Andrew Jackson, an introductory segment for HGTV’ Restore America, cultural videos for the Department of Defense and most recently filming of Eric Roberts’ “Deadline”.  Gemini Production quite often uses the land around the home for their religious based productions.

The privately owned Oaklawn played a major part in the filming of “Daltry Calhoun” as well as the Next Design Star series on HGTV.
